
The biopsychosocial model of human behaviour was developed to look at and assess human beings in their totality – as thinking, feeling, acting agents with a range of diverse biological, psychological and social needs. We are all unique human beings, but in our quest for meaningful, fulfilling, happy lives we ALL need to concern ourselves with the health of our bodies, the workings of our minds, and the level of connectedness we feel with other human beings.
This model of human behaviour has led to the development of a wealth of techniques for assessing and assisting human beings who may be in distress, physically or mentally impaired, and alone. Psychosocial coaching is one of these techniques. It aims to help clients address the problems they face, to accept their limitations, to maintain positive self-esteem, and to practice ways of fulfilling their needs. It is a challenge-based method of getting clients to see what barriers might be preventing them from living their best life and of developing realistic, achievable strategies to overcome these obstacles.
